An Open Letter to Phong H. Bui

According to the Wikipedia, Phong H. Bui “is an artist, writer, independent curator, and Co-Founder and Artistic Director of The Brooklyn Rail, a free monthly arts, culture, and politics journal.” The March 2026 issue of The Brooklyn Rail opens with a writing titled Dear Friends and Readers, to which I offer a ten-point retort in this open letter.

All the oppressive and genocidal political movements used the discourse of giants to legitimize their atrocities.

Before the Pilgrims and Puritans reached our side of the Atlantic, Nations had already been established here.

To stop at openness to immigration as a bastion of morality is, in my belief, irresponsible. Further is necessary: absolute mobility. No one should be tied down to a plot of land or a physical address. Everyone deserves to be at home anywhere around the Globe.

The same goes with religious freedom. More is needed. Laws are currently set up so that if you belong to one religion, you cannot belong to any other. Which, being Catholic myself, I can say it borders of hypocrisy as a Christian. Through Jesus Christ, we may become capable of breaking the seven seals of the Book of Revelations. To make it clear, for ye who have eyes to read, John, the Revelator, was handed a scroll written on both sides, sealed with seven seals. I contend one side was written in Hebrew, the other, in Sanskrit. That should make this argument clear.

The sum of our two major political parties can hardly constitute a political spectrum, but rather a subset thereof. For starters, both parties are technically liberal. Meaning left. On the one hand, Republicans’ limited government is to let the wealthy rule over the poor by means of trickle-down economics. On the other, Democrats’ Socialist ideals, while full of good intentions, is just overspending, or more precisely, throwing away money at problems that can only be solved by the integrity of The People.

To make matters worse your so-called progressive left is just a rehash of European intellectual labor taken out of context and imported into American Schools without going through the scrutiny of the Department of Agriculture. Critical Theory outstanding.

The Berlin Wall fell in 1989. And life begins at conception.

What is freedom without Truth, but utter b(l)indness? Maybe, just a race between ideologies. What is an economy that doesn’t value priceless acts of mercy and generosity. And I mean the generosity that matters. Not the kind that generates a return of investment. The kind that ends up being an absolute sacrifice. The kind you cannot log in a ledger. Either, because it’s in bad taste to do so, or because there are no real means of appraising their value. It’s subjecting oneself and the other, (I know, ouch.), to subpar standards of living. Standards of living that are, ultimately, inhumane.

You may think the US of A is an experiment. What would PETA have to say about that!? I say American Life is an EXPERIENCE of the values of its People. (Are You Experienced?). And I talk from experience when I say experimental artifacts always fall short of the Living Truth. So, if you want to degrade yourself and your neighbor, you’d better find yourself in the depths of Hell. Far away from me. Far away from the Salvific Grace of God. Let me hear you cry for Mercy then!

Repent and Sin No More.
